Lolz, Any size tank would do I guess as long it has room for the female to run and catch her breath after being chased. Since my mom won't allow me to get a filter, I used this one [link] It worked out nicely amazingly for how small it was, but I don't recommend using one that small. There's a lot of room once the divider is taken out.
I would suggest finding a 10 or 15 gallon growout tank at LEAST for the babies, and a heater. They won't last very long without one, I'm afraid. And you'll need a filter later unless you plan on doing ALOT of water changes everyday. And what foods are you using for the babies now?
Okay ^^ Yea, I'm so glad Christmas is coming soon. So much spare cash, lolz. Plus, it doesn't always get so cold down South where I am. But, Heater is a good idea. I never really got to that point sadly. The lid to the tank I was using has a history of falling in. My mom touched it, she's not experienced how to touch the lid without it falling it. And it landed right on the bubblenest. Colby was like flipping out like crazy.
Christmas is definitely helpful when it comes to extra money lol. I had one of those tanks for a while as well, the lids are so dumb.. I was using that as my 'sick tank' and it probably caused more stress than anything because it kept falling in and scaring the crap out of my fish lol.

To tell the truth I'm watching the female flare at a different male right now and her fins are already healed
Do you have any pics?
